Musing Of the Day: Strapping Yourself In

I’ve started to realize that believing one thing and experiencing what that belief should be can soooo many times be two different things. This is why it is always a good idea to “consider the source” of things. Not just with people but even with commitments in general. Sometimes it is easy to have expectations and hopes and beliefs and then get disappointed, only to realize that you should have considered the source.
Oprah discovered this when she came up with the quote “do not spend your gallon size offering, offering them to pint sized people”. I do not think this idea is an excuse to rank, degrade, or belittle others I think it is a truth to the understanding in life that certain energies and certain flows are harmonious and certain ones are not BECAUSE THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT THERE TO BEGIN WITH. Oops! It is easy to see certain things and feel certain things but have the connection not be there on the other end. This doesn’t mean the connection/idea/observation is wrong to begin with it just means that it didn’t apply to that situation/person/project in that moment in time. Having things come together depends on congruency– and timing is a big part of that. There is freedom from yourself in this idea.
When you commit yourself to something, whether that be a cause, a church, a person, a relationship, a business, a job, a creative endeavor, whatever, you are strapping yourself in. And when you do this you have to be ready to take the ride for whatever that is and give respect to your being in relation to that entity. Because we are so conditioned as people to give ourselves a hard time and beat ourselves up I think a lot of times we do this as a default habit and never really look at the whole picture. This is a great way to reduce disappointment in life because disappointment can cause one to become paralyzed and therefore spoil future ideas and projects. I have learned this the hard way in a couple of areas of my life one of them being my sales job. Being resilient as a person is key to riding the waves of life. One of the tools to achieve resiliency is not beating yourself up by realizing nothing is perfect and understanding the whole nature of the beast you are strapping yourself on to. When you give respect to that “beast” you can fully open your heart and appreciate the nature of what “is” and therefore be able to handle yourself and your place in that setting much easier. I think taking personal responsibility in life is always a good anchor point to have but at the same time also realizing the nature of the beast (considering the source) is good for perspective in whole so that sometimes you can release yourself and just do what is ultimately the best decision: move on.
