The band Fun. asks:  What Do I Stand For?

This answer was MUCH easier to answer when we were, say, 16-18 years old.  This is the era when things were easier to figure out.  Nate even points out in the song (oh yeah, the song is “Some Nights”) that he has a mortar in his bed that particular night.  Meaning, you are supposed to be secure.  And cozy.  And then BAM shit happens. If you haven’t reached this point in life yet you will.  This is the disruption of life.  This is when shit happens.  This is when everything you understood goes out the window.  This is why in the song (reminder: “Some Nights” by Fun) is about ghosts.  Because ghosts are just a memory.  They are things that at one time were solid, but are now just remnants.  Ghosts don’t have solid form.  They still matter, but actually not really hence why Nate is confused in this song (the song is, once again, “Some Nights” by Fun.)  It may seem awkward and unknown but trust me, it’s the right way.  Confused/unknown/awkward.

Yes, you will sell your soul for “This”.  Just like in the song (have you not heard the song yet?—please listen to it for free on You Tube or some shit if you don’t have the album.  We are talking about “Some Nights” by Fun.  Don’t forget the period behind the band name Fun.).  “This” is actually a profound thing.  Probably the entire reason why Fun. as a band has a Grammy nomination.  Not because of the entire catalogue of the album up for grabs (though that would seem obvious) but because of one line.  This.  What is This Mr. Nate?  (Nate is the lead singer of Fun.)  He explains it all, you will sell your soul for This.  In fact the rest of the album is dedicated to answering the question of What Do I Stand For?  And the answer, OF COURSE, is “This”.  But you won’t understand immediately.  You need to hear the entire album and be confused and contemplative before things start to become clear.  Because individuality is compromised.  And in place of that is some quest for conformity.  And in that shit gets lost.  The song “Some Nights” by Fun. actually gives all the answers while asking questions at the same time.  Damn.  Thanks guys!!!  I love you.
