Dry Up and Blow Away
March 31, 2019 by mycountryisthewholeworld
I’m in year 39 of my life, many months away from the next decade, and I find it interesting that society expects everyone to have done everything and have it all figured out by the age not even of 40 but even by age 30. WTF?? You see this in these silly award ceremonies who emphasize age (super ageist I might add) as if once someone hits age 30 or 40 and beyond they just dry up and blow away. FUCK THIS.
People tend to become more set in their ways as they age, less risk adverse. Why? PROBABLY BECAUSE SOCIETY THINKS THEY SHOULD BE DONE BY AGE 30 OR 40. “Oh well, now I’m 40 so less relevant, let me go take my Geritol and invest in a comfortable arm chair.” Have I mentioned, FUCK THIS.
Let’s scratch the surface of why this is. As you can guess the suffocation of female power many years ago, which cut people off from their roots and the honoring of cycles, meant an emphasis on COMMODITY. This is where slavery came into play, the push for progeny and accumulation because produce, produce, produce, spend spend spend! Doing (yang male energy) over being (yin female energy). Naturally those aging, especially back when people regularly kicked the bucket by age 50 (antibiotics weren’t even a thing until the 20th century) were seen as being in the way of this giant wheel of agenda that had to move faster and faster, the wheels constantly greased. Welcome to the values of our world even today. It’s worse for women, whose value is heavily based on externals (what a sick, superficial world this is) so getting older means her value plummets at lightning speed each year that passes. Enter women injecting things into their body to appease this. (The darkness runs deep).
The truth is there is honor and things we all need FROM EVERY ERA OF PEOPLE’S LIVES. Like, wisdom and perspective. Also, creativity tends to mature like a fine wine over time if the artist will let it. Ya know when you know better you do better, right? Holy shit there is so much to glean from people who have learned to navigate the tides of life way longer than the rest of us, even if their values may have been different and evolved separate from the current norms. We all have something to gain from each other.
Acknowledgement One: Life is messy and not black and white so let’s have understanding and acceptance of the seasons of everyone’s experiences. This way we can get good at listening and bearing witness instead of judging, so we can then get down to the good stuff.
Acknowledgement Two: People who are getting older need to learn to embrace the seasons of their own life, and not be afraid and don’t stop being curious and playful. Try new things! You don’t need to have everything figured out and mastered by a certain age. That’s dumb and stems from an old mentality whose drive was exploitation.
You are always relevant no matter what season of your life. We need everyone!
