Today.  A random early April Sunday in Austin, TX.

The weather was perfect. A balance of humidity and dry.  About 80 degrees.  I got up, did a work out class, got a latte at a local coffee shop nearby while hanging with a friend.   I ran into another friend while at the coffee shop.  I got a juice from Whole Foods.  I went to Bookpeople and picked up the Sunday NY Times.  I walked my dog.  She’s in year 7 of her life.  Still full of life and spry.

I met up with a group of friends at Barton Springs Pool.  We all sat out on our blankets and towels.  A couple in the group recently got engaged.  They squabbled. We chatted as a group about mutual interests.  We got hot and decided to take a dip.  One friend was brave and dove in to the 68 degree water.  I dipped my feet and legs in.  It was ice cold and they turned numb, but then later became comfortable against the blazing heat.

I left, did another workout class, went to a bar called House Wine where I ordered a wine and a cheese plate. I read my New Yorker and Economist for the week.  Some of my friends from Barton Springs met me at House Wine later on.  We talked about Lick Ice Cream’s Opening Day the next day. And other fun things in our lives.  My one friend is heading to Europe soon. I have a concert tomorrow. Everything we discussed was about being busy.

By the end of the evening we departed. I texted another friend who I met for a nightcap beer at another local bar.  The evening was cool but pleasant.  We talked about friendship and the recent loss of my beloved Siamese cat, totally unexpected. As a result of this, we talked about love. What it means, or how it’s held back.  While we were there, another mutual friend happened to be there.  This is twice in the same day this has happened, out of all the hundreds of bars in this town…

I am in my year 36, a month shy of being half way to my year 37 of human existence on this planet.

This day will never come again.
